Steve Lange, a distinguished trombonist with the Boston Symphony Orchestra, has a remarkable career built on over 25 years of collaboration with renowned trombone maker Christian Griego. Their long-standing professional relationship has allowed for an in-depth understanding of the specific needs and preferences that Steve requires to excel, whether performing as a second trombonist or taking on the principal role when called upon.
In addition to his orchestra performances, Steve's life is deeply intertwined with recitals, teaching, and the constant pursuit of refining his sound. His dedication to recording and assessing his playing over the years has culminated in the development of these three expertly crafted trombone mouthpieces.
Steve primarily performs on the Lange 4 mouthpiece, designed with his unique needs in mind. However, he recognizes that every player has different requirements, which is why we've also created variations with smaller cup diameters for those who prefer them. The Lange 4 was developed based on the mouthpiece Steve used to win both the St. Louis and Boston Symphony auditions, with subtle adjustments that enhance ease of playing. The result is a mouthpiece that is free-blowing, offers clarity on stage, and provides the ideal projection for orchestral settings.
We are confident you will appreciate the craftsmanship and thoughtfulness behind these three tenor trombone mouthpieces. Thank you for considering the Lange series for your musical journey.
